The Color of 2014: Radiant Orchid

pantone-color-of-the-year-2014-radiant-orchidSay goodbye to your green pants and mango lipsticks. Well in theory… if you actually care about this stuff!

Wanna know what color you’ll be sick of by this time next year?

Pantone, the global authority on everything hue-related, announced this week that PANTONE 18-3224 Radiant Orchid will be the color of 2014.

I’m personally not a huge purple fan (except during Laker games) but it’ll be nice to see less emerald shades around town.

Leatrice Eiseman, executive director of the Pantone Color Institute, describes the color choice. “An enchanting harmony of fuchsia, purple and pink undertones, Radiant Orchid inspires confidence and emanates great joy, love and health. It is a captivating purple, one that draws you in with its beguiling charm.”

Sounds good, right? Perhaps I’ll invest in a gloss.

Radiant Ordchid meets Beauty.

The color Radiant Orchid gives the complexion a healthy glow. Somewhere between lavender and purple, Radiant Orchid is a blend of cool and warm undertones, so it should be universally flattering. G’head, try it out the next time you’re at Sephora.

For those feeling bold, the color plays well against shades of orange and red. For the less adventurous, pair it up with pinks and other shades of lighter or deeper purple.

When wearing it on the lips, keep eyes soft or smoky and cheeks pearly. Benefit has the best highlighters around! Check out High Beam for cheek bones and let orchid be your primary pop of color.

Here’s to joy, love and health in 2014!
