NARS Oscar Beauties

I told my nieces that the main takeaway from La La Land is that a girl’s biggest inspiration always comes from her aunt. At only 8 and 10, I could see the doubt in their eyes.

But when I said that Emma Stone has looked like perfection on every red carpet this season, they both agreed with great big smiles. And Emma didn’t disappoint last night either.

In a shimmering 1920s inspired gold Givenchy Haute Couture gown (and subtle Planned Parenthood pin!), Emma’s Oscar-winning look was flawless.

Though no matter what she wears, it’s her attitude, honesty, and famously expressive green eyes that always seem to light up the lens.

And no one knows Emma’s eyes better than Rachel Goodwin. As her longtime makeup artist, Goodwin is the talent behind every one of Emma’s gorgeous beauty looks.

“Emma’s [Oscar] look was all about [old] Hollywood Glamour – her makeup was inspired by the romantic paintings by Dante Gabriel Rossetti.”

Goodwin also did the makeup for last year’s Best Actress winner Brie Larson. Note to Next Year’s Nominees: Consider getting Rachel Goodwin on your beauty team!

For this year’s Oscars, “My inspiration for Brie’s makeup look was the strong, vibrant and empowered women that were often featured in Helmut Newton’s photography.”

Personally, I didn’t care much for Scarlett Johansson’s Alaïa gown or buzzed hair. That said, her face looked fresh and pretty. And since Scarlett’s makeup artist Frankie Boyd used NARS, I’ll go ahead and include her key products here:

Lastly, in keeping with my NARS theme…

The brand’s International Lead Makeup Stylist Uzo used NARS products on Ava DuVernay’s beautiful face.

“I wanted to emphasize [the] warmth in her complexion while keeping the makeup simple with a classic smoky eye, and lips and cheeks in muted shades of plum and rose.”

NARS Cosmetics are available at narscosmetics.com, Sephora, and other fine retailers.

All those stunning faces and creative spirits aside, that was an Academy Awards broadcast  like most of us have never seen. In the end, I think the right awards wound up in the right hands. But what’s a Hollywood evening without some big time drama?

So bring on the rebels, the ripples from pebbles, the painters, and poets, and plays. And here’s to the fools who dream. Crazy as they may seem. Here’s to the hearts that break. Here’s to the mess we make.

  1. I loved Haley Seinfelds dress.(That may not be her name.)    she’s very young and her dress was pastelly flowery tied at neck with the back layered in chiffon like petals.   It was a work of art.
