Last night was what many of us refer to as the Fashion Event of the Year in NYC: The Met Gala. This year’s Costume Institute theme was “Rei Kawakubo/ Comme des Garçons: Art of the In-Between.”
Red was fittingly a big trend of the evening, but my favorite was Emma Roberts.
Emma stunned in classic Hollywood glam. Her lollipop red satin Diane von Furstenberg gown stood out with a sleek corset bodice, peek-a-boo lace, and hot pink fur boa. While her hair hung long with an “un-styled” style, her makeup was a mix of vibrant and smoky color.
Makeup artist (and the woman behind her namesake brand) Charlotte Tilbury described Emma’s Met Ball look as, “a dreamy, lit-from-within glow on flawless, pore-less contoured skin, soft, rose-gold metallics on the eyes to make them look bigger and brighter, and sumptuous, fuller, wider Pillow Talk supermodel natural lips.”
Below are some of the key steps and CT products Charlotte used to create Emma’s look:
COMPLEXION

- Wonderglow as a base to help redirect light and create a spotlight effect
- Magic Foundation in 2 Fair & 3 Fair
- Mini Miracle Eye Wand in Shade 1 for under eye brightness and luminosity
EYES
- Brow Lift in Rita helped perfect her full eyebrows
- Instant Look In A Palette in Beauty Glow (base+enhance) and Luxury Palette in The Dolce Vita (lid+underneath lower lashes) were mixed to create a rose gold metallic eye
- The Classic Eyeliner in Audrey to elongate eyes
- Rock N’ Kohl Pencil in Eye Cheat to make eyes appear bigger and brighter
- Legendary Lashes Mascara to top off the eye
CHEEKS
- Instant Look In A Palette in Beauty Glow (Filmstar Bronze & Glow) to sculpt cheekbones + dreamy highlighter dabbed on upper cheekbones and Cupid’s Bow
- Beach Stick Lip To Cheek Dewy Colour Pop in Moon Beach dotted onto cheekbones for extra dewiness
LIPS
- Lip Cheat Line Liner in Pillow Talk to over-line and inflate lips
- Matte Revolution Lipstick in Pillow Talk to top off lips

Fire engine red with a pop of cotton candy! Nice to see a little whimsy – good for her.
Met Emma Roberts at a nail place with her mom about 10 years ago. She’s tiny…and so perfect everything>groomed from birth to be a star. But she’s never lost sight of her big big celebrity goal and has’t been dissuaded a step.
